Origins:
I'm CT. I have been making art for over 15 years, principally with encaustic, oil paint, and colored pencils. I'm inspired by biomorphic forms and the inherent beauty of wax and natural pigments.

Sourcing and Materials:
Encaustic is made from beeswax and dammar resin, and encaustic paint includes pigment in that mixture. The beeswax used in all of my paintings was harvested from a sustainable apiary in Vermont during the honey extraction process, in which I was an active participant. I later married the head beekeeper, so beeswax hasn't been in short supply since. I like to test the limits of encaustic medium with mixed media such as wood, fabric, and other organic materials. I am inspired by natural forms, sometimes incorporating my sculptures with plants and in vivariums. Encaustic holds up to elements such as soil, water, and weight, so please reach out if you would like a custom living sculpture piece.

Encaustic Maintenance and Care:
Encaustic paintings stay shiny and maintained with regular rubbing by clean hands. I actually encourage people to touch my paintings because it keeps them "healthy." Encaustic is an ancient medium, and paintings can last for hundreds, maybe thousands of years. They withstand moisture, sunlight, and outdoor heat. Do not store in freezing temperatures.
